Hello Blog World!

My name is Carrie Boteler, and I am a junior at the best university in America-- Virginia Polytechnic and State University (aka Virginia Tech). Ever since childhood, I have been obsessed with sports, especially football. My dad attended Georgia Tech, so I grew up an avid Yellow Jackets fan, and always rooted for the ACC teams.
When it came time to apply for colleges, I knew I would not be continuing the family legacy and attending Georgia Tech because I was not really the engineering type. As I looked at schools, I applied to mostly ones that had Division 1-A football programs because I knew I wanted that intense football atmosphere.
It came down to a choice between Virginia Tech and Sewanee: The University of the South. I was tempted towards Sewanee because I would be able to do track and field there and it was my great love. However, I knew that I wanted to do something in the field of broadcasting, and Sewanee didn't offer anything in that field. They also had a d3 football team.
In the end, I chose Virginia Tech because of the in-state tuition, major, and incredible football team. The first time I stepped foot inside Lane Stadium for our kickoff game, I knew there was no other place I would rather be. The electric atmosphere was intoxicating. The passion of 60,000 Hokie fans was contagious, and soon I forgot I was ever a Jackets fan (for the most part).
I declared my major as Communication when I applied to Tech, and originally I had wanted to become a morning news anchor. But as I attended more and more football games and realized the love I had for the sport I realized that my true passion lay in the field of Sports Broadcasting.
I then began watching football games not only for the sports but also to listen to the sideline reporters. Erin Andrews is an amazing reporter, and also happens to be a sorority sister of mine. I would love to be in her place someday.
I also love the Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning. I truly believe he is the best quarterback to ever play in the NFL and I am in awe of his incredible poise both on and off the field.
I intend for this blog to mainly be about Hokie Football, but I am sure that I will also post about other NCAA Football teams as well as pro teams. I love all sports, so in the slow offseason expect some coverage of sports such as tennis and track and field.
I am so excited for this blog and thank you for taking the time to read it! I hope it was worth your while.
